Miniature Train Ride in Toodyay, Western Australia

There's a great little miniature railway ride you can take starting and finishing in Toodyay, which is 85 kms NE of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. There are several trains, including steam trains, deisel and electric, and a proper railway station with a ticket office. The railway goes along the Avon River, crosses 2 bridges and a crossing, and also goes through a tunnel before returning to the station. Big kids, also known as adults, and little kids can take the ride and even if they don't have smiles when they leave, there are invariably smiles on their faces when they return - it's such fun. Trains run for joy-rides on Sundays between April and November, on Public Holidays and also during the school holidays. They only run in these months because being steam trains there is the danger of fire starting from the sparks, and in country areas of Australia this is a real danger. My husband and I sat on the grassy bank and watched the trains manoeuvering around in and out of the station today, but next time we're going to go for a ride on one of the steam trains.
